Faces of Paris 2007

On December 26th an exciting new game will begin and play out for five days. Each day 10 faces will be revealed. Just answer the question for each face and on January 1, 2008 you could be awarded $5000 USD.

Rules of the Game

Each statue is either free standing or part of the architecture of a building found within the 20 Arrondissements of Paris.
Each picture will have the arrondissement the statue can be found in, a caption and a question attached.
For example, the following might accompany this photograph:

Fourth Arrondissement
"The Art of Science"
Known from 1310 to 1830 as the Place de Greve, the square was the site of many public executions. It was here that Ravaillac who assassinated Henry IV in 1610, was quartered alive and his body was ripped to pieces by four strong horses.
Today the only that thing that might be “executed” is a perfect double-axel on the holiday ice skating rink.
There is an art to ice skating. And there is a science. This statue oversees science.

The question is, who created her? Ask one of the gendarmes guarding the entrance to the building in front of which she sits. They will happily give you the answer.

Test Your Ability

Following are some examples of how the game could be played.

Fourth Arrondissement
"Medusa in Holland"

One of the most interesting and famous door decorations in Paris, this Medusa guards the place where Beaumarchais wrote “The Marriage of Figaro.”
What is the exact address?

Eighth Arrondissement
"Water Water Everywhere"

During the revolution, thousands of people lost their heads on this site.
One thing is for sure, this gal will never lose hers. Indeed, she just had a very expensive makeover. Note the headdress is real gold.
What does she have in her hands? Careful, there are many statues here.
